Position Opening: Senior Policy Advocate
ENE (Environment Northeast) is seeking a Senior Policy Advocate in our Sustainable Energy Program.
Responsibilities and Qualifications. The Senior Policy Advocate will have a primary focus (i) leading ENE’s efforts to promote energy efficiency and clean energy policy reforms at the regional level and (ii) furthering ENE’s successful state based efficiency advancements, improved energy system planning processes and implementing improvements for greater clean energy resource investments. Policy goals include raising awareness of and developing and proposing reforms of regulations and policies governing the regional power grid to promote appropriate investment in clean energy resources and conform regional energy policies to state level priorities. Work activities include: representing ENE at meetings, hearings and other forums; drafting public comments, educational documents or filings; managing and/or supporting research and development of ENE reports, workplans, or other materials; working with partner organizations and coalition building; advancing state sustainable energy goals primarily in Massachusetts; and strategic program planning with appropriate ENE teams. The successful candidate will have a significant background in energy and environmental issues, and ideally be familiar with utility regulation, demand side resource issues, and an understanding of the jurisdictional involvement of states, FERC and ISO-NE in energy planning and decision making. Strong analytical skills and a comfort level with data analysis/interpretation are important in our work. Candidates should have an interest in and facility with public speaking, expository writing, and advocacy, and should be comfortable working cooperatively in a team structure while handling independent assignments. An advanced degree (Masters, JD or PhD) is expected. At least 7 years of relevant experience is preferred.

Position Opening: Policy Advocate -Massachusetts
ENE (Environment Northeast) is seeking a Policy Advocate in our Boston, Massachusetts Office.
Responsibilities and Qualifications. The Policy Advocate will have a primary focus (i) supporting ENE’s efforts to promote and implement energy efficiency, renewable and clean energy policy reforms at the state level; and (ii) furthering ENE’s work on developing, promoting and implementing sustainable transportation policies that reduce pollution, promote innovation and economic growth, and diversity our transportation fuels sources. Policy goals include advancing and implementing state and regional energy and transportation policies that reduce environmental harm and promote sustainable economic and job growth, particularly in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, transportation, and utility regulation. Work activities include: representing ENE at meetings, hearings and other forums; working with public officials; drafting public comments, educational documents or filings; working with partner organizations and coalition building; advancing state sustainable energy goals primarily in Massachusetts; and strategic program planning with appropriate ENE teams.
The successful candidate will have an interest in energy and environmental issues and ideally be familiar with utility regulation and transportation policy. Strong analytical skills and a comfort level with data analysis/interpretation are important in our work. Candidates should have an interest in and facility with public speaking, expository writing, and advocacy, and should be comfortable working cooperatively in a team structure while handling independent assignments. Candidates should be able to work with diverse constituencies to advance policy goals in legislative, regulatory, and advisory settings and be able to assert the organization’s goals in an assertive, professional, competent manner. At least 2-5 years of relevant experience in sustainable energy and sustainable transportation issues is preferred. A J.D. or master’s degree in a relevant field is expected, but consideration will be given to exceptional candidates without advanced degrees who evidence a strong interest in sustainable environmental and economic policies.

Position Opening: Communications Associate
ENE (Environment Northeast) is a leading non-profit organization that researches, develops, and advocates innovative policies that tackle the region’s environmental challenges while promoting sustainable economies. We are at the forefront of efforts at the state and regional levels to combat global warming with solutions that promote clean energy, clean air, and healthy forests. ENE also packages our concrete experience from our region in order to influence federal energy and climate debates. ENE’s staff of 16 is located in offices in Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Ottawa, Canada. Our communications goals are: to inform the media, policy makers and key constituencies about ENE’s analysis, policy recommendations, and accomplishments; to engage in public discourse or collaborations to advance our advocacy objectives and raise awareness of ENE’s work.ENE is seeking a Communications Associate to work with our team of analysts, attorneys and other advocates.
Working with ENE’s Communications and Development teams and program staff, specific responsibilities include:
- Build and implement a proactive traditional and new media strategy for ENE at the state, regional and national levels.
- Draft, distribute and track press releases; handle press calls.
- Build and maintain media contact lists, assist with arranging press interviews or editorial board meetings for ENE advocates.
- Track press coverage and keep complete media files.
- Assist with organizational materials, including brochures, newsletter, and monthly and annual reports.
- Work with project and communications staff to maintain, update and track ENE’s Web site
- Manage ENE’s online presence and strategy, including e-mail campaigns, Facebook, Wiki, etc.
- Assist staff to develop strong media skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or 2-3 years of work experience required
- 1-2 years of direct professional experience in communications or public relations preferred
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite required;
- General understanding and proficiency with online outreach and social media tools required
- Web editing and design (CMS or HTML) experience preferred;
- Familiarity with Constant Contact preferred
- Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator preferred
- Demonstrated interest in environmental and sustainability issues
- Familiarity with New England area media, advocacy and government networks is a plus
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Organized, able to meet and set deadlines
This position can be structured as full or part time and can be based at one of ENE’s offices with a preference for Boston, MA, but other locations may be considered for the right candidate. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
